Glendora Independent Study (homeschool)
The Independent Study Program (ISP) is an optional, educational alternative, available to students from kindergarten through high school, and Adult Education high school diploma programs.  ISP is meant to respond to the student’s specific educational needs, interests, aptitudes, and abilities within the confines of school board policy. As a recognized alternative to regular classroom study, the ISP option is expected to be equal in quality to classroom instruction.
Participation in ISP is voluntary.  ISP is a choice made by the student, parent, guardian, or caregiver, and the school administration.  ISP is a contract-based program that defines the term of placement, the reason for placement, and the course of studies to be followed during the contract. Contracts are written for the term of one semester at a time, and are re-written at the start of each semester. As a temporary placement, ISP can be taken for a minimum of 5 days from the school of residence to allow the student to take part in family situations that arise during the school year. Students on a temporary placement receive study materials from their regular classroom teachers and return the materials to their teachers when they return to school. This placement is usually for less than 30 days, and ends before the conclusion of the current semester. For a more extended period, a long-term placement allows the student’s in grades 6-12 to complete a course of studies under the supervision of a certificated instructor of the district that follows the adopted curriculum of the board of education. Assignments are provided on a weekly basis and are returned to the ISP instructor for correction and attendance credit.  Extra assistance and tutoring from the instructor is available if necessary. Students in grades K-8th grade may also participate in ISP through the districts Home Schooling program. The Home Schooling program allows the parent/guardian of the student to take a more active role in the delivery of the curriculum under the guidance of a certificated instructor.
To enroll in the independent study programs, contact should be made with the student’s school of enrollment to request placement to the ISP. Upon receipt of the request form, the ISP department will conduct an assessment of the student needs and assign the student to the most appropriate instructor. The instructor will call and make an appointment with the parent and student to establish a program of study and sign the required contract.
If you have any questions regarding these programs, please feel free to contact the district office, or the Independent Study Department office at (626) 852-4511.

Our enrichment classes are hosted by Christ Lutheran School to support homeschooling students grades K-6.  Multi-age classes (K, 1, 2-3, 3-4, 5-6) are taught by instructors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will cover specific curriculum to support writing, math, science, and social studies.  Though no files will be kept, nor transcript issued, families will receive syllabi so that parents will know what their child is learning in class.   Families in these classes are required to report to an umbrella school or file their own Private School Affidavit, as Oaks is not a charter school nor PSP.  These classes are designed to support and enrich core subject areas covered at home.Who Are We?
We are homeschooling families who want our children to love learning and excel in their education.  Our students get the best of both worlds-- they have the opportunity to do school at home with family, while having the support and enrichment of a classroom teacher in four core subjects and the opportunity to learn and interact with their peers on a regular basis.

Our program was started by two homeschooling moms who saw the need for this type of environment and began to look for opportunities to create it.  They gladly found the support and partnership they needed in Christ Lutheran School in Brea.

TLC in Upland, CA

What is TLC? TLC is a non-profit, inclusive, parent-led, homeschool enrichment program for children ages 5 to 17 years of age. Parents choose to support the program either as committee participants, teachers or assistants and remain on campus throughout each TLC day to meet the necessary staffing needs.
What classes are being offered?
Subjects such as science, history, physical activity; performing, visual, language and domestic arts have been featured in past semesters. The beauty of a co-op is that the number and variety of classes offered depends entirely on the contributions from its member families!
Where and when does TLC meet?
TLC meets at a church property in Upland, CA (the two entities are affiliated only through the site leasing agreement). Classes meet for two semesters annually (approximately 12 weeks each), on Mondays from September to May, with winter and spring breaks. Families select from the schedule the five, 55-minute classes that will make up their TLC day.
Our classes are parent-taught. Some of our teachers are credentialled or professional in the subject or activity they are teaching, some are simply passionate about their topic or it is a hobbie. All teachers are livescanned and are always paired with an assistant.  Please feel free to send your questions, comments and enrollment inquries to TLC’s Executive Director, Shawna Ginocchio via email at [email protected]
